Disability for Brain Disorders
There are many types of brain-related disorders for which SSDI or SSI disability benefits are available. Some brain disorders are caused by damage to the brain, from cerebral trauma, strokes, infections, drugs, toxins, or from a degenerative disease like Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's chorea, Parkinson's disease, or multiple sclerosis. These types of brain disorders are often referred to as organic brain syndrome (OBS), since they are due to a medical disease rather than a psychiatric illness. Also covered here is schizophrenia, a group of chronic psychotic disorders that are also thought to be diseases of the brain, and neurological disorders, or malfunctions of the central nervous system.
