To get a status update on your Social Security disability claim, you may call your local Social Security office or call the Social Security toll free number. However, you may be able to get more specific information by calling disability determination services (the agency that processes your disability claim for the social security administration) and you can obtain this number from the social security office. Generally, Social Security will notify you if a decision has been made on your disability claim via the postal service. However, if you have not received a disability decision and more than ninety days have elapsed since you filed your disability claim, it would be advisable for you to contact your local Social Security office. Sometimes decisional notices are lost in the mail. How does this affect you as a disability claimant? If you were denied for disability, you may not be aware that your disability claim has been decided and that your sixty-day appeal period has begun or in come cases nearly finished. Of course, if you do not appeal your disability claim denial within the appeal period, you may have to begin the disability process all over again.
