Once the state disability examiner has made the medical decision on your disability claim it may be sent to a quality review unit within the state agency. Quality control reviews randomly selected disability claims for review. Although randomly selected, most claims selected for review are disability allowances, particularly medical vocational allowances. Why does quality control review more of this type of claim? A medical vocational disability allowance considers medical, educational, age, and work criteria to determine if an individual is disabled by Social Security rules and guidelines, therefore there is a greater chance for decisional errors. Sometimes, disability cases processed by the state disability agency are sent to a regional quality control unit. The same process is used to review the disability case for any medical or technical errors. If an error is found it may be sent back to the state disability agency or to the Social Security office of jurisdiction for more development. Social Security disability decisions cannot be revealed to a disability claimant by the state disability agency or Social Security until all quality review work has been completed.
