It depends on what your doctor will or will not do for you, regarding your disability. If your doctor has essentially told you that, in his or her opinion, you should be able to return to work, that is one issue (that may be problematic if this opinion is very clearly stated in the doctor's office notes). Another issue would be a doctor who "generally" supports a claimant's disability case (this may be on the same footing as "lip service"), but who is unwilling to provide a supporting statement, either in the form of a very detailed letter or a completed RFC form.

In the final analysis, if your doctor won't support your case for ssdi disability benefits, it may mean one of two things; that your disability case is not particularly strong, or simply that you should find a different doctor.  The truth is, doctors are more often wrong about a patient's prognosis than many of us would naturally assume. So, if you having a pending claim for ssdi benefits and your physician is unwilling to help, consider switching.
