This section is devoted to providing information about disability benefits and children and will attempt to answer many of the questions that parents who are filing on behalf of their children will typically have. This section will bring together resources and articles from different areas of this site but will also include material written specifically for this section. Title 16 of the Social Security Act provides disability benefits for minor-age children. This program is known as SSI, or supplemental security income. SSI benefits for children are determined in the same manner as disability benefits for adults. With child disability claims, however, the aim is not to determine if a child incapable of performing work, as is the case with adults, but, rather, the ability or inability of a child to engage in age-appropriate activities.
