Mental Consultative Exams

Consultative exams are usually ordered Social Security when there is no recent medical information in a patient's file. If you have claimed a mental illness in your disability application, or if any of your doctor's treatment notes have commented that you may suffer from depression, anxiety, or problems with intellectual ability, and you haven't been to see a psychologist or psychiatrist recently, Social Security is likely to send you for medical testing. There are several different types of mental consultative exams, including the mental status exam, psychological testing, and a psychiatric evaluation.
