SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY, SSI FOR TENDER POINTS

Can you get ssd ssi disability for tender points?

Tender points are areas on the body that are painful to the touch. Unlike trigger points, they do not refer pain to other parts of the body.

Tender points are integral to a confirmed diagnosis of the condition known as fibromyalgia syndrome. In fact, a diagnosis of fibromyalgia disorder requires an individual to have eleven of the eighteen recognized tender points.

Most individuals with tender points have diffuse pain throughout the body. Tender point pain does not get progressively worse; rather the pain is associated with flare-ups. Tender point pain often leads to chronic sleep disturbance, which may result in cognitive dysfunction known as brain fog.

The cause of tender points is not known, however some physicians attribute it to a psychological source. However, it seems obvious that, for some individuals, the diagnosis of fibromyalgia accompanies other significant physical problems such as arthritis, degenerative musculoskeletal problems, and other autoimmune disorders.

There is no set treatment for tender points or fibromyalgia syndrome, however anti-depressants such as amitriptyline (known for its ability to relieve neuralgenic pain) have been beneficial to some patients. Although the cause of tender points is not known, it is still a very disabling impairment for some individuals. Statistical information indicates that approximately thirty percent of all fibromyalgia suffers are not able to maintain full time employment.

Tender points are sometimes noted on claimant's applications for social security disability benefits, along with various other symptoms.
