Chest pain, also called angina, is a complaint or symptom that is commonly mentioned on applications for social security disability and ssi.

Chest pain is often the result of a plaque-caused blockage in a major artery, a condition known as ischemic coronary artery disease. However, chest pain can also result from a number of conditions and disorders, such as pericarditis, which is an inflammation of the heart's membrane lining.

Although many of us know that cardiovascular problems cause chest pain, there are other causes for chest pain. For instance, some episodes of chest pain may be attributed to gastroesophageal problems of the upper body such as hiatal hernias, heartburn, or other disorders of the esophagus. Additionally, psychological disorders such as panic attacks, anxiety, and depression commonly cause chest pain. However as with any medical problem, chest pain should be investigated thoroughly to determine the nature of the chest pain. Treatment options will depend upon the source of the chest pain.

Individuals with heart conditions that have led, or will lead, to the performance of an angioplasty or coronary artery bypass graft often find themselves in the position of having to file for disablity benefits.

How difficult is it to win social security disability? Essentially, if a claimant's physical (or mental) limitations are great enough, a disablity case can be won regardless of the actual conditions for which a claimant has been diagnosed.
