SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY, SSI FOR ACID INDIGESTION

Can you get ssd ssi disability for acid indigestion?

Acid indigestion is a condition which goes by many different names: acid reflux, heartburn, and gastroesophageal reflux disease.

The condition is basically defined as an occasional backing up of the contents of the stomach into the gullet, or esophagus. Since the stomach's contents also include hydrochloric acid, this poses a significant health risk for anyone suffering from acid reflux. Unlike the lining of the stomach, the esophagus lacks a protective layer of mucus to insulate it from the corrosive effects of acid. For this reason, acid indigestion, over time, can cause esophageal damage.

Occasional heartburn usually does not indicate acid reflux disease. However, if you have heartburn at least once a week there is a greater likelihood that you suffer from acid reflux disease, and you should seek treatment to prevent permanent damage to the esophagus and vocal cords. Recent studies suggest that although certain foods may contribute to acid reflux, the value of making dietary changes to prevent acid reflux disease symptoms is unpredictable. Although, these same studies support elevating the head of the bed and weight loss as a means of relieving symptoms of acid reflux disease.

How often do claimants with acid reflux apply for disability? While it is extraordinarily rare for anyone with only acid reflux to file for disability benefits, acid reflux is seen on a sizeable number of applications for ssd and ssi disability.

The main thing for disability claimants to remember is this simple rule: when a disability claim is reviewed, every impairment that is listed on a claimant's social security or ssi application will be examined and given due consideration.
