Yes, a social security disability attorney or non attorney representative will typically complete your appeal paperwork for you. Generally, this will include doing the paperwork for either a request for reconsideration (you may live in a test state where this stage of the social security disability / ssi disability appeal process has been eliminated), a request for hearing before an administrative law judge, a request for review of an administrative law judge's decision (this is the appeals council appeal), or even filing an appeal in federal district court. In some cases, if a claimant contacts a potential attorney or non attorney representative too close to the sixty day deadline, the representative may ask that the claimant contact the social security office on their own to officially request an appeal. This puts the social security office on notice that an appeal has been formally requested within the sixty day deadline. However, even in such cases, an advocate may still complete a claimant's paperwork once the claimant has signed and returned the necessary "new client" paperwork (this would include signed releases to obtain medical records, a signed appointment of representative form ssa-1696, and a signed fee agreement).
