You may file your Social Security disability reconsideration by contacting your local Social Security office or the toll free number to request your reconsideration appeal paperwork. Of course this is just the first step in the Social Security disability reconsideration process. When you have completed your reconsideration paperwork, you must return it to your local Social Security office within the sixty –five day appeal period. Once Social Security receives your reconsideration, it is forwarded to the state disability agency for a medical determination. Although your reconsideration is sent to the same place for a decision, the medical decision will be made by a different disability examiner. However, the reconsideration disability examiner is bound by the same rules and regulations used to make a decision on your initial disability claim.
