Should you apply for disability online or simply do this in person? If you decide to apply for disability online it may help to make the Social Security disability claim interview process quicker. However, even so, you will still be contacted by your local Social Security office to complete the disability application process. Why? Because Social Security will need to address any potential entitlement to Supplemental Security Income benefits (SSI); additionally, Social Security must obtain medical release forms, work information, and other vital personal information from you and this cannot be done strictly by applying online. Currently, you may only file your Social Security disability application (not Supplemental Security Income) and the disability medical report online. And as far as Social Security is concerned, there is no preferred method for the disability application process. However since you will have to have contact with your local Social Security office anyway, you may as well contact your local Social Security office for a disability interview. Of course, if you have done your disability application and the disability form online, your disability interview will be somewhat quicker.
