Where they hold social security disability hearings depends on the type of disability hearing that the claimant is being scheduled to attend. Typically, most people think of ALJ (administrative law judge) hearings when they think of "disability hearings" and these hearings are held at an OHA, or office of hearings and appeals. Most states have more than one OHA location. However, hearings are also held at the various state agencies that are assigned the task of adjudicating disability claims pending at the pre-ALJ hearing level (in most states, these agencies are known as DDS, or disability determination services, but in others they may bear the name Disability determination Unit, or Bureau of Disability Determination). DDS hearings are different from disability hearings that are held by ALJs. DDS hearings are generally held to accord claimants who have received ssd or ssi benefits and have been ceased the opportunity to present a case for having their benefits continued.
