The social security administration will pay a monthly benefit to approved disability claimants based on their insured status for title 2 social security disability benefits. The actual amount received each month, of course, will depend on how much a disabled individual has paid into the system over the course of their work years. Disabled individuals who are not insured for title 2 social security disability benefits, either because they have never worked (children certainly fall into this category) or because their earnings were insufficient to gain the required number of work credits will be ineligible for social security disability benefits. Disabled individuals falling into this category will, however, be eligible for consideration under the ssi, or supplemental security income, disability program.
