WHEN SHOULD YOU GET A DISABILITY ATTORNEY ?

Ideally, you should get a disability attorney as soon as you have been denied for social security disability or ssi benefits (social security disability is also known by the acronyms ssdi and ssd, while ssi stands for supplemental security income).

In the vast majority of cases, if you have been denied on an initial disability claim, you will have to pursue your claim to the level of an administrative law judge at an ALJ hearing before you can win your case and get your social security disability or SSI benefits established. This isn't always true, but, in most cases, it is the unfortunate reality that disability claimants must deal with.

However, for many individuals it is not a bad idea to have an attorney involved from the very start, simply because so many claims are denied at the initial application level and also at the first appeal level (known as a reconsideration or review).

In other words, if you get denied on your application, you will probably need to request a hearing. And having representation at a hearing is always advised.
