Not really. A social security disability or ssi disability claimant will receive no assistance from the social security administration when it comes to getting needed medical treatment and evaluation. Of course, since an applicant for benefits will need current medical records in order to be approved for ssd or ssi, this makes it especially difficult for those individuals who do not have health insurance. If a claimant's records indicate that there has been no recent treatment, typically that claimant will be scheduled to be seen at a CE, or consultative medical exam. However, the purpose of such an exam is simply to obtain "recent" documentation. In no way is a CE intended to provide anything approximating medical treatment.
