Whether or not a social security disability claimant's representation is handled by a local organization or by a national disability group is, probably, in most cases not an overriding issue. Some individuals may disagree with this statemement and assert that a disability claimant should always find representation that is local. However, there are a number of flaws with regard to this reasoning. For one thing, many "local" disability attorneys are often located a hundred miles or more from the ssd and ssi claimants they represent. With this being true in so many cases, the notion of local representation is often a fallacy. Also, and unfortunately, many disability claimants never even meet the attorney who handles their disability case until the day of their hearing before an administrative law judge. Therefore, whether or not a social security applicant or appellant's representation is provided by a local organization or by a national organization (such as Allsup or the Binder and Binder law firm) is not nearly so relevant an issue as is the quality of the representation that is provided.
