Questions about Osteoarthritis |
|
The two types of osteoarthritis are primary and secondary. Aging causes primary osteoarthritis. In this type of osteoarthritis the protein of the cartilage begins to breakdown, and degenerates the integrity of the cartilage. Primary osteoarthritis is caused by repetitive overuse or misuse of joints. The repetitive movement of the joint will result in inflammation. This inflammation stimulates the growth of bone spurs (osteophytes) and nodes; making movement painful and debilitating to the individual. Other medical conditions cause secondary osteoarthritis. The symptoms are similar to primary osteoarthris. Individuals who have congenital hip impairments, abnormally formed joints, hip dyplasia, diabetes, and inflammatory chronic arthritis may develop osteoarthritis.
