Questions about Multiple Sclerosis - MS |
|
Researchers do not believe we are born with multiple sclerosis and there does not seem to be evidence of a genetic link, so one might theorize that the origin or trigger for MS may be viral in nature. Evidence exists to suggest that an individual may be exposed to a virus prior to the age of eighteen and that this virus lays dormant for a period of time. This time period may vary from case to case. Multiple sclerosis symptoms usually appear no earlier than ten years of age and generally no later than the age of fifty. As to what virus may be implicated, this is unknown and, in fact, there may be a single virus that acts as a triggering mechanism for MS or, instead, a number of different viruses that act in combination.
