Questions about Multiple Sclerosis - MS |
|
It has been established that there are many more cases of multiple sclerosis in colder climates. In fact, it seems that the further north you go, the more cases of MS there are. Many have cited the statistical evidence that above the 37th parallel there are twice as many MS cases than below that line in the United States. This theory holds true with canada as compared to the United States as well. There are twice as many multiple sclerosis cases in Canada as in the United States. Geography is a signicant factor in the incidence of MS. Studies suggest that individuals in America and Europe, particularly at more northernly elevations, are twenty times more likely to have multiple sclerosis than people living in Africa. Interestingly enough, those who emigrate to Europe or North America from a southern elevation, prior to the age of fifteen, may have as much of a statistical chance of developing MS as individuals living in northern areas.
