Questions about Eczema |
|
Treatment of eczema generally includes antihistamine topical ointments (to treat the itch) and corticosteroids (to treat the actual condition). If an individual has mild to moderate eczema the treatment may be hydrocortizone or desinade although more severe cases of eczema require stronger steroidal treatments. The severity of the case determines the steroid treatment, because of the negative side effects of strong steroids. For example, the skin could become too thin, fragile or atrophied. Additionally, strong steroids used over large areas for prolonged periods can be absorbed into the skin and cause osteoporosis (bone demineralization).
