CREDIT & FINANCIAL ISSUES FOR CLAIMANTS

Typically, most claimants who are stuck in the ssd system will find, at some point, that they can no longer pay their bills on time...if they can pay them at all. As a consequence of this, they may have their credit ruined and, possibly, have to endure a host of nightmare situations, including the loss of their life savings, harassment calls from creditors, repossessions, the threat of losing basic utilities, and even the possibility of foreclosure or eviction.

Can these awful situations be avoided? Unfortunately, not in every case. However, in some cases the answer is certainly yes.

How does a claimant avoid the worst? As with so many things, it starts with planning. But to be able to plan ahead, a disability claimant should realize from the very start that the disability process can take---in many, (if not most) cases---up to two and a half years to complete. This is a depressing, but highly pertinent, fact that SSA does not make a determined effort to inform people of.

For some, of course, it may be too late to develop a defensive financial plan, i.e. their savings may be gone, their credit may be damaged, and, in the worst situations, the home they live in may have been lost due to past due mortgage payments or back taxes. However, for those individuals whose situations have not bottomed-out yet, there are a number of options worth investigating.

The links on this page lead to articles regarding various loan options (short term loans and consolidation loans), as well as other information including, but not limited to, the consequences of bad credit, the likelihood of repairing damaged credit, and what to do if a checking account has been charged off.

Readers should bear in mind that while some of the options presented in these links may be useful in some instances, in some cases they may be the options of last resort.

However, even "last resort" options can sometimes make the difference between staying afloat and sinking financially.

Information on various types of Loans

It's never a good idea to take out a loan if you don't have to. And in most ordinary cases, people really don't have to. However, situations for disability claimants are often very different from the norm: disabled individuals typically have to "survive" the lengthy disability process. Therefore, the following links discuss loan options that, of course, may or may not be helpful, depending entirely on an individual's situation and needs.

Information on bad credit and credit repair

It really is true that without good credit you are at the mercy of the system. And because this an indelible fact, life is made even more difficult for those who have become disabled and are unable to pay their bills on time as they would like. The following links discuss the credit reporting system, as well as what you can do when your credit rating has become damaged.
