The severity of fibromyalgia symptoms worsen in response to hormonal changes, mood changes and also external environmental factors. Hormonal changes seem to worsen the symptoms of fibromyalgia in women during and after the onset of menopause. Mood changes (depression and anxiety) that are often in response to tense or emotionally stressful situations can also worsen the effects of fibromyalgia.
However, environmental factors alone may also play a role in worsening the pain and fatigue experienced by fibromyalgia sufferers. It is not uncommon for a fibromyalgia patient to report that their symptoms have gotten worse after temperatures have risen or dropped. |
