Yes, women are far more likely to be diagnosed with fibromyalgia syndrome than men. In fact, it is estimated that as much as 80 percent of all fibromyaglia diagnoses are attributable to women.

Having said this, though, this does not make fibromyalgia a woman's disease. The condition is also diagnosed in men, often after the occurrence of a significant injury, or as a result of a degenerative orthopedic process (in both cases, this typically involves the lumbar spine).

While in women it is believed that the onset of fibromyalgia may result, at least in part, from a change in hormone levels, there is no evidence that hormone levels affect FMS onset in men.
