There is reason to believe that a specific type of bacteria, mycoplasm, may be involved in the onset of fibromyalgia, in at least a few FMS patients. In the results of one study, mycoplasm infection was found in approximately one out of seven individuals with fibromyalgia.

Does this mean that this particular bacteria may be an originating cause for fibromyalgia in some cases? There is no definitive proof for this. However, further research may reveal that mycoplasm plays a significant role in the onset of this condition.
