Fibromyalgia patients tend to characterize their pain as something they feel "all over". It tends to be less localized than and less specific than the pain associated with conditions such as osteoarthritis. Commonly, fibromyalgia patients use a wide range of adjectives to describe their FMS-related pain and these include: radiating pain, shooting pain, throbbing pain, and stabbing pain. Typically, the pain felt by a fibromyalgia patient is accompanied by tender points, sensitive-to-the-touch epidermal areas that overlie affected regions of muscle and connective tissue. Some fibromyalgia patients also report a tingling or burning sensation (similar to the effects of nephrophathy) as part of their description.
