The purpose of this section is to provide information relating to the types of independent consultative medical exams which applicants for social security disability or ssi are sometimes required to attend. As the following pages will indicate, medical examinations for disability claims are conducted by independent physicians who are contracted to perform these services. These doctors are not actually employees of the social security administration. And the examinations performed by these doctors typically do not play a large role in the actual outcome of a disability case. More often than not, a social security medical exam will simply be scheduled because an applicant for disability has not been seen by a doctor recently. |
