Medullablastoma is a malignant neoplasm that generally occurs in the cerebellum of children. However, there have been some rare cases in which medullablastoma tumors have occurred in adults. Symptoms of medullablastoma may include problems with vision, vomiting, jerking eye movements, irritability, weakness, fatigue, and personality changes. The prognosis for individuals diagnosed with medullablastoma have improved and currently approximately eight out of ten individuals diagnosed with medullablastoma will be free of the cancer five years after diagnosis, due to aggressive treatment methods. However, for individuals who had medullablastoma with metastasis at the time of diagnosis and children under the age of three the prognosis is poor. Treatment options for medullablastoma generally include surgical resection of the tumor, radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
