In some cases, the only approach to treating pain successfully will be via medication. However, in many instances, a non-medication approach may provide some benefits in combatting pain. Endorphins are chemical substances produced by the brain which have a chemical composition similar to morphine. Morphine and endorphins both work to lessen pain and endorphin production can be stimulated by exercise (of the aerobic variety for which walking counts -- walking also stimulates greater blood circulation and more efficient removal of toxins from tissues and blood) and positive mood states (loving, laughing, and otherwise enjoying one's time). |
