Avascular necrosis






The basic definition of necrosis is death of tissue. So what is avascular necrosis? The condition is known by other names such as aseptic bone necrosis and osteonecrosis and is defined as death of bone tissue due to blood supply deprivation. Essentially, avascular necrosis causes the collapse of a bone. What causes avascular necrosis? There are a number of conditions that can cause AV, incuding vaculitis and hypertension. Even the excessive use of alcohol and anabolics has been found to cause this form of necrosis.
