Anxiety is a psychological and emotional reaction to certain triggers. Anxiety can be triggered by external factors such as an event and anxiety can also be triggered by internal factors such as one's preoccupation with an issue that has emotional importance attached to it. The symptomology of anxiety can include difficulty with breathing, sweating, and gastrointestinal distress. Can anxiety be mediated or controlled? Yes, with counseling and/or the use of various medications as prescribed by a physician (the physician may be one's internist or may be a psychiatrist). What are the statistics on anxiety? According to some sources, one out of ten individuals will experience an attack of anxiety in any given year and 1.5 percent of the population will actually develop an anxiety-related condition at some point in their life. |
