A breathing condition that is fairly common and with which most people are acquainted is asthma. Asthma may be thought of a respiratory disorder that exists in certain individuals who are more responsive to certain factors, such as contaminants in the atmosphere, than other individuals. Whereas most individuals could easily tolerate certain levels of allergens (dust, pollen, smoke) in their immediate environment, those who have asthma may suffer an attack and such attacks can potentially result in an individual's death. How is asthma treated? Generally with inhalers and medications that are classified as dilators of the bronchus. For severe bouts of asthma, a person may be prescribed steroids and children may be given steroid-based syrups. |
