Hepatitis often conjures thoughts of jaundice. However, with anicteric hepatitis there is no accompanying jaundice (jaundice is a state characterized by yellowing of the skin and of the whites of the eyes caused by the liver's inability to sufficiently process red blood cells. This type of liver impairment causes a buildup of billirubin levels leading to jaundice). Symptoms of anicteric hepatitis include fever, stomach problems, and anorexia. Anicteric hepatitis can sometimes be misdiagnosed as influenza. |
