Alopecia

Alocpecia is simply a medical term for loss of hair. Alopecia may be caused by chemotherapy treatments but also from skin disorders, endocrine disorders, and reactions to pharmaceuticals. Alopecia affects both men and women and may result in full or partial hair loss. One form of alopecia, known as alopecia areata (and which is of unknown origin), has the effect of causing delineated bald spots on various parts of the body, most commonly the head. This form of alopecia generally remisses in 6 months to a year's time, though it may reoccur.
