Aloe is a succulent plant found on several continents. The gel from the aloe plant is used for a variety of different purposes, from cosmetic and so-called "age defying" purposes to the treament of wounds (typically minor burns). However, according to Mosby's medical dictionary, aloe vera gel has also been used to treat frostbite and radiation-caused skin injuries. Also according to Mosby's, aloe vera gel should not be used by pregnant women, children under the age of twelve, those with heart disease, kidney disease, or bowel obstructions, and those with hypersensitivity to garlic, tulip plants, or onion plants. |
