Adrenaline is a chemical substance, a hormone, and a neurotransmitter. It also goes by the name epinephrine. It is basically the substance that allows for the body's "fight or flight" reaction. By increasing heart rate and by increasing the strength of the heart's contractions, it allows more oxygenated blood to be delivered to muscles (think of a car's supercharger). It also stimulates the respiratory system to open airways in the lungs.
