Aldosteronism






Aldosteronism can be defined as excess secretion of the hormone aldosterone. One form of aldosteronism is caused by adrenal hyperplasia or by an aldosterone secreting adenoma. Aldosteronism may also be induced by one of several conditions and the list includes the following: nephrotic syndrome, hepatic cirrhosis, congestive heart failure, and idiopathic edema. Aldosteronism is also known by the term hyperaldosteronism.
