Abdominal pregnancies make up only .01 percent of all pregnancies (one hundredth of one percent) and, thus, are fairly rare. What is an abdominal pregnancy? It is an extrauterine pregnancy in which the conceptus (an early stage of the fetus) develops within the abdominal cavity. Such pregnancies typically result in the death of the fetus and in a small percentage of cases, the mother may die as well (six percent). |
