Abdominal adhesions can be caused by inflammation. They can be also be caused by trauma. And sometimes they form after abdominal surgery has been performed. A patient who has an abdominal adhesion may experience distension of the abdomen (distension can be defined as a pronounced and uncomfortable swelling of the abdomen) and some pain, but may also experience vomiting and feelings of nausea.
