Heart disease includes several different conditions, including chronic or congestive heart failure. However, most people think of coronary artery disease when they think of "heart disease". Coronary artery disease is also known as ischemic heart disease. Ischemia is a condition that exists when blockages, or occlusions, in arteries prevent a sufficient amount of oxygenated blood from reaching the heart. This can lead to angina pectoris a.k.a. chest pain, and, potentially, a heart attack. |
